Q&A: What would be the best way to backup all the media and docs on my hard drive?

Question by jasminium: What would be the best way to backup all the media and docs on my hard drive?
I have 40+ gigs of media and it’s constantly growing. What would be the best way to back it up? I don’t want to copy it to DVD or CD that would be too time consuming. I’ve read that I could copy everything to an external hard drive. Are there any other options?

How about an external backup drive? I think you can get them pretty cheap these days. Just press a button and it backs your entire hard drive up.

What do you think? Answer below!

in your situation a portable HD hardrive may suit your needs the best 🙂

The best option indeed would be to extract the information via a FIREWIRE external harddrive, which would be the fastest option by now. It is also possible to configure (depending on the brand of the hard drive) an application that automatically saves changes to data that you specify, in a seamlessly way.

I would recommend backing-up to a external hard drive. I have about the same amount of media and have a back-up scheduled to run weekly automatically. Very easy and convenient.

You can copy it to a network drive. if you have an old PC you load http://clarkconnect.com and use it as storage and a bunch of other things you can easily load 500gb or 1TB hard drive

I bought a 250G external hard drive and moved all my photos, important docs and photos to it. I have also backed that up on CD’s.

Backup all your important incrementally once a week (optional) to the external drive. In my opinion backing up to the external drive is the best option because transferred files can’t be affected in case of virus attack/physical hdd crash. As for software I think that the best option on the market is True Image by Acronis.

You can use the free Mozy to backup your personal data online securely. Is an install and forget software; it will keep the backup uptodate with no action.

Use this link to get 2.25 Gb for free for your backups:

I am using for many months and is very good.
