And why doesn’t Hendricks just buy all 43 teams? Then he would be first every time.

They are in the business to sell tires. If they made a tire that would last the entire race then they would not make as much money off of these teams.

Sure but then it would be so hard that it would have no grip.

No tire could ever last an entire race. They would have to be 6 inches thick with rubber. Too big and heavy.

    emiller is right

they are trying to make a tire that is soft enough to have some traction for good racing

and hard enough to last for a tank of gas

any tire hard enough to last a whole race, would not have enough traction for the HP these cars put out

they’d ALL be sliding all over the place

Goodyear had a tire that would last for most of the Indy 500, back in 1964.. The cars no longer carry enough fuel to go that far, and the tires wouldn’t have as much traction..
In the 1964 Indy 500, two cars each carrying 78 gallons of gasoline came together, and exploded on the first lap.. After that fuel loads were limited by every racing organization in the world.. Fuel cells became mandatory in NASCAR before they were available from the manufacturer..
You have to stop for fuel, you may as well have tires that stick better, and not have to last as long..
